Strange Place

Congratulations on Strange Place, everyone! The pictures that I've seen look like a good show. One question that will not elude me: Why are there no women in the show? This is not the 1960's, people!

Ahh, a good question indeed. Dayton...? The Guerilla Girls might show up on this one...

Yes, do we need a GG revival? I raised this point with much hesitation-simply because I think the show is great and respect all the artists involved. As a woman, it is something that really sticks out, that's all. Dayton?

That's very valid critique of the show. I have conversed with many people about it, and I am not unaware of it. How can you be unaware of a show of Christian artists composed entirely of males, and mostly lily white ones, as well? That's a critical home-run pitch if there ever was one. I have two (brief) responses that are somewhat related:

1. I asked. I invited three women whose work would have been an excellent addition to the show. One happened to be Lynn (I may have done so vicariously through Rubens), and she happened to be about to have Mia. This probably still could have worked out, but the show idea shifted entirely, and I failed to follow up. The others just declined.

2. I know a much smaller pool of women artists than men, and most of my intimate relationships with artists are with men. This would be by accident of my being male myself, and being married.

That being said, I should have had some women artists, and I should be aware of more.

I agree...that it would have been nice to have some women artists included in the show. The show does look very good though.
The fact that your closer friendships are with these people seems like the standard, in the church. I am not criticizing but I have been in places where it is taboo to be friends with those of the opposite sex. so to me, who ended up in the show could be part of the conversation of what the show was about.
